Oooh I love that soung too I could see that matching Sado
youtube
This song makes me think of how Sado would be in a relationship. In my Sado x reader writings I think I’m a little off canon because canon Sado would be a terrible partner

@i-guess-im-into-this-now
First of all, this post has made my day! I'm delighted to hear these creations have resonated with u ^_^ Tom Waits & Lemon Demon are relatively new faves of mine, so I'm still exploring their oeuvres myself!
Tom Waits is just incredible! His voice is really something else, I could listen to it for hours <3 If u liked Tom Waits, u might also like the English band The Real Tuesday Weld. Their sound is usually fairytale dreamy or smoky noir, sometimes both. Their breakout hit was "Me and Mr Wolf" due to its music video but my personal fave is a newer release called "Silicone". I'll link u to my faves playlists from each of these 3 artists in case u would like a guided exploration :)
Tom Waits (17 tracks)
Lemon Demon (48 tracks)
The Real Tuesday Weld (36 tracks)
I had forgotten abt that quote from 17776, thanks for bringing it back to me! It's 100% the vibe. When I first came across 17776, I thought it was an article. Then the webpage exploded & I just stuck around bc I was too fascinated to leave 😂 I got through it in a day but that was basically nonstop reading, I couldn't put it down! My favourite parts are the side plot with the light bulb & the moment right at the end where all the answers come together in a flurry <3
Also, Lizzie Bennet Diaries mention!! Another beloved work from the web.
I realised I was a bit vague abt the books, so I'll give u a sentence on each one, just so u know what to expect bc I'm aware starting a new book can be a big time investment! Fortunately, these are all fairly short (<200 pages IIRC 🤔).
Ella Minnow Pea is set on a highly literate island where slowly over time the Council rules that it is forbidden to write or speak certain letters of the alphabet, & the story is told through written letters that the characters send each other, so u can see the ways they work around that censorship & feel the tension start to climb as more & more of the alphabet becomes banned.
Invisible Cities is a beautifully surreal travelogue of Marco Polo's journey around Kublai Khan's empire and his meetings with the Khan in which he tells him abt all his cities, although none of them truly exist & they are all secretly some kind of message or moral or symbol that answers a concern the Khan has abt his vast empire.
The Menelaiad is ostensibly the story of the Trojan War told through Menelaus's perspective (he introduces himself as "the eternal husband" & it only gets better from there), but is actually told in a series of nested stories as he tells his story to different people around Greece. It also does some weird & wacky things w punctuation bc it was written in the 1960s & experimenting w the literary form was v fashionable back then.
There's no rush at all to explore all my earlier or my newer recs — please meander through them as u see fit :) But if/when u do, do please tag me as u mentioned, I'd love to read yr thoughts!
Hi! Just read yr blog description abt weird recs :) If ur still taking any, may I recommend the online story 17776, the Tom Waits song 'Singapore', the Lemon Demon songs 'Soft Fuzzy Man' and 'Lifetime Achievement Award', the books 'Ella Minnow Pea' and 'Invisible Cities' (not related), & the short story 'The Menelaiad' if ur into Homeric epics! I have the PDF of that last one & can send it to u, it's p rare :) Enjoy! & if ur not taking weird recs, have a lovely day all the same 💙
I will take weird recs forever and always. 🍌🍌🍌
I'm unfamiliar with all of the things you just recommended but will dutifully and delightedly check them all out.
Thanks so much for weird recs! 💕
#all the angels#nice things#i-guess-im-into-this-now#genuinely my fave post this year!! thank u for taking a chance on those recs <3 so so happy u found something to enjoy in them

I've always wondered, who or what inspired Daphne's character design? Was she created off a real person, maybe an actress of the 60s? Is there any information on this? (Same question for the rest of the gang). If not, which old actors remind you of our beloved gang?
This question required a bit of research since I’m not actually super knowledgeable on actors of the 60′s and didn’t have a specific idea of who Daph could be based off of. I figured all of the gang were based off of popular pop culture icons of the time since they’re very clearly caricatures in the early shows.
I’m actually a major slut for films from the 40′s and early 50′s simply from the vibe and aesthetic those movies give off so in my head the first person I though of was Barbara Stanwyck:
Specifically from the 1941 romantic comedy Ball of Fire (spoiler, she’s the ball of fire). Stanwyck always carries a commanding energy whenever she’s on screen and her range is incredible (I watched Double Indemnity like a week after watching Ball of Fire and it was so jarring). Her appearance and charm remind me of my perception of Daphne at least.
However, after doing a little digging, I found that Daphne was actually supposed to be based off of Thalia Menninger from the 60′s sitcom The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
She was the main love interest of the first season although her main traits seem to be that she’s materialistic and shallow which doesn’t remind me of Daphne all that much. She might be a tad self-absorbed but not in any way that it’s negative. Plus she doesn’t look that much like Tuesday Weld so I’d stand by my Stanwyck case. However this was who Daphne was initially based off of.
Now was really interested me was while looking into the show (which is basically Saved by the Bell and Boy Meets World before either of them existed) I found that the titular character’s best friend shared certain traits with my favorite beanpole.
The first thing I noted was that Maynard is played by Bob Denver (that’s Gilligan from Gilligan’s Island for any of y’all not waist deep in the classics on a regular basis) who I’m a pretty big fan of. I also noted while it wasn’t a carbon copy of Shags there were definitely enough similarities to consider Maynard an inspiration. And then I saw a photo of Maynard and was even further surprised:
Again, not a carbon copy but his appearance definitely reminds me of Shaggy.
So I kept digging and looked into Dobie Gillis himself, played by Dwayne Hickman. There aren’t any real similarities personality wise but Fred was mostly a blank slate in the early shows because he was meant to be the collected leader. Dobie definitely doesn’t have what it takes to lead the Scooby gang but:
He’s definitely got a similar style and appearance to Freddie.
Finally we have Zelda, Dobie’s secret love interest that is more of a background thing until the end of the show.
Dobie, Maynard, Thalia and Zelda.
Fred, Shaggy, Daphne and Velma.
Now I went through all of that research only to stumble upon this article and now I’m mad. If I really wasn’t thinking I would have just said the Archie characters and we could have moved on but of course I had to go on a deep dive.
Now I understand why Dobie Gillis was a major influence for the Scooby gang since it was the first sitcom to have teenagers play the major role in the show. It also put a strong emphasis on the struggle teens go through while growing up with so many expectations and was a huge deal when it came out. This show is the reason most TV shows have a good chance of having a teen cast. So I can see why while developing the Mystery Five (og name) Dobie Gillis would be a huge inspiration.
#ask minus scooby#mod ninja#metv really had to rain on my parade i so bummed#thought i was making a major discovery here#i mean i actually love metv and theyre the main reason i even know who bob denver is so#i can forgive them#i was also considering rita hayworth from gilda but i think shes a little too femme fatal in that#i guess thats to be expected when i mainly watch noirs but
